Dr. Cathy Miller
DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
Dr. Miller has worked with anti-Human Trafficking organizations for over 10 years and cared for victims and survivors in the clinical setting for over 20 years. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas, Health and Sciences at Tyler. She presents and trains nationally and internationally on the subjects of human trafficking, complex trauma, and child sex trafficking. Cathy has multiple published works on child and adolescent complex trauma and child sex trafficking. She joined Shared Hope International (SHI) as a Fellow in 2010 becoming their Health Care Consultant and trainer in 2014.

Dr. Miller has over 20 years’ experience as an ER, ICU, and trauma registered nurse holding positions such as Director of multiple departments, and critical care flight nurse.
She and her research teams recently completed the first research to identify the most important elements of a health care provider education program for the recognition, intervention, and referral of child sex trafficking victims and expanded that research to include all ages and forms of trafficking in persons. The results of this study informed SHI's iCare guide.

Most recently, consultant and trainer for DHHS ACF's newly formed National Human Trafficking Training and Assistance Center. She is the Co-Chair of the Texas Coastal Bend Border Region Human Trafficking Task force and a founding Steering Committee member of the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force initiated at the United Nations in November of 2018. She founded and is the president of Miller Health Care Consulting serving as subject matter expert for various law firms and the US Attorney's Office Southern District of Texas.

In academics Dr. Miller teaches at the Doctoral, Masters', and Undergraduate levels.
